What is included in a typical Spool engine kit?
Kits usually include pistons, rings, rods, bearings and related hardware depending on the engine family. Check the listing for exact inclusions.
Do I still need machining with a full engine kit?
Yes. The block must be honed and all clearances checked and set by your builder. Assembly should only occur after full measurement and verification.
What are the recommended clearances for the Ross pistons in the RB30ET rebuild kit?
For the Ross pistons, ensure you set the bore clearance according to the manufacturer's specifications, typically around 0.0015" to 0.0025" for performance applications. Additionally, ring gaps should be set based on your intended use, generally around 0.004" per inch of bore for naturally aspirated setups and slightly more for boosted applications.
What is the torque specification for the ARP2000 bolts included with the Spool conrods?
The ARP2000 bolts in the Spool H Beam conrods should be torqued to approximately 55 ft-lb when using ARP Ultra-Torque lubricant. Always refer to ARP's latest instructions for the most accurate guidance.
Do the conrods require any specific machining before installation?
Yes, the Spool H Beam conrods may require big-end honing to ensure proper fitment on the crankshaft journals. It's essential to check the clearances and ensure they meet the specifications for your specific RB30ET build.
What type of head gasket is included in the RB30ET rebuild kit and what surface finish is required?
The rebuild kit includes a Cometic MLS head gasket, which requires a surface finish of around 50 RA or better for optimal sealing. Ensure the cylinder head and block surfaces are machined to this specification.
What is the significance of the 9:1 compression ratio for the Ross pistons?
The 9:1 compression ratio is a balanced choice for the RB30ET, providing a good mix of power and reliability. This ratio is suitable for moderate boost levels while maintaining engine longevity, but always consider tuning, fuel quality, and specific application needs for optimal performance.
