Critical installation warning
Do not add clicks to the ratchet, force out the piston or lever the guide. Install the tensioner as supplied and remove only the retention pin after installation. Modification or removal of the check-valve components voids the manufacturer's warranty.
Apply Loctite to mounting bolts, rotate the engine by hand before sealing, and prime the oil system by cranking before first start. A brief buzzing noise may occur while air bleeds from the system. This street tensioner is not intended for extreme high-oil-pressure, very high spring-load or harsh-limiter race combinations.

Will this tensioner suit a Ford Barra engine?
Yes. It is designed as a drop-in OEM+ timing-chain tensioner for Ford Barra 4.0L DOHC engines used in factory replacement and performance street applications.
What oil pressure is this tensioner designed for?
Atomic recommends a maximum of 80 psi for optimum operation. Higher pressure increases chain load and can contribute to chain or guide failure; this is not the race-spec tensioner for extreme oil-pressure setups.
How should the ratchet be set during installation?
Do not add clicks, force the piston out or lever the guide. Install the tensioner in its supplied position and remove only the retention pin after installation.
What deck-height variation can it accommodate?
Atomic states a tolerance of approximately plus or minus 1 mm. Engines with thick head gaskets or unskimmed blocks and heads may require guide modification; confirm the combination before installation.
What should I do before first start?
Apply Loctite to the mounting bolts, rotate the engine by hand, then prime the oil system by cranking so the cylinder head and tensioner fill with oil. Ensure the retention pin has been removed.
