What bolts do these conrods use and how should I tighten them?
These rods use ARP conrod bolts, usually ARP2000 as standard with L19 or CA625+ available on some models. ARP2000 bolts are generally torqued to around 55 ft-lb for 3/8 inch and around 75 ft-lb for 7/16 inch when using ARP Ultra-Torque lube. L19 bolts must be tightened by stretch, not torque. Always refer to the latest ARP instructions for exact specifications.
Do these conrods have a horsepower rating or warranty?
No. Like other performance rods, they do not carry a horsepower or performance warranty. Spool warrants workmanship before installation, but once fitted, power handling depends entirely on machining, clearances, tuning, fuel, boost level and rpm.
Do the big end and small end need machining?
They often do. Crank journals and pin bores vary between engines, so your builder should measure the big end oil clearance and small end pin clearance and hone as required before assembly.
What is the recommended machining for the Spool Commodore Holden Buick conrods?
The Spool conrods for the Buick V6 may require honing of the big-end or small-end to ensure proper fitment due to factory journal and pin size variations. Always check clearances and consult with your engine builder for specific machining needs.
Are bearings included with the Spool Commodore Holden Buick conrods?
No, the Spool Commodore Holden Buick conrods do not come with bearings. You will need to source the appropriate bearings separately based on your engine specifications.
What is the material and construction of these conrods?
These conrods are made from high tensile 4340 forged steel and feature a two-piece forging design. They are also heat treated, shot peened, and undergo X-ray and sonic testing to ensure reliability and performance.
What power levels can the Spool conrods handle in the Buick V6 engine?
While we have customers achieving over 1000 RWHP with these conrods, actual power handling will depend on factors such as machining, clearances, tuning, fuel quality, and boost levels. It's crucial to ensure your engine is built to handle the desired power output.
Do I need to perform any specific checks before installing the Spool conrods?
Yes, before installation, it's important to check the alignment of the dowelled caps, confirm proper fitment with the crankshaft and piston pins, and ensure all machining is completed to the builder's specifications for optimal performance.
