Haltech Nexus R3 Barra VCU & Terminated Harness Package
The Haltech Nexus R3 Barra package brings advanced engine management, power distribution, wideband control and high-speed data logging together in one properly integrated system for selected Ford Barra 4.0L engines.
The standard package combines the Haltech Nexus R3 VCU (HT-193000) with the Nexus R3 Ford Barra Terminated Engine Harness (HT-186405). Rather than starting with a universal harness, the terminated Barra harness is designed around the factory engine sensors, electronic throttle, cam control and other commonly retained Barra systems.
This makes the package an excellent foundation for anything from a well-sorted street and performance Barra conversion through to a high-powered drag, roll-racing or circuit application.
Important: The base package does not include the ignition sub-harness, ignition module, ignition module adaptor harness or injector sub-harness. These must be selected separately where required. See the option guide below before ordering.

Barra engines and vehicle conversions can vary considerably. If your engine is outside the applications above, has mixed-model sensors, a changed throttle body, modified cam control or a non-standard ignition system, contact Spool Imports before ordering.
How to Select Your Ignition Options
The correct ignition components depend on whether you are retaining the factory Barra coils or converting to Nissan R35-style smart coils.
Retaining BA/BF factory ignition coils
Select all three of the following options:
- BA/BF Ignition Harness – HT-130345
- HPI6 Six-Channel High Power Igniter – HT-020036
- Nexus Six-Cylinder Igniter Adaptor Harness – HT-186069
The BA/BF factory coils require an external ignition module. The HPI6 provides the required six-channel ignition drive, while the HT-186069 adaptor connects the HPI6 to the Nexus terminated harness and compatible ignition sub-harness.
Retaining FG factory ignition coils
Select all three of the following options:
- FG Ignition Harness – HT-130347
- HPI6 Six-Channel High Power Igniter – HT-020036
- Nexus Six-Cylinder Igniter Adaptor Harness – HT-186069
As with the BA/BF arrangement, the factory FG coils require the HPI6 ignition module and the Nexus igniter adaptor harness.
Complete R35 coil conversion
Select:
- Haltech R35 Coil Bracket Kit for Ford Barra – HT-120205
This is the complete conversion option and includes the coil mounting bracket, six R35 ignition coils, connectors and the required ignition harness.
Do not add the HPI6 ignition module or HT-186069 igniter adaptor harness when using the complete HT-120205 R35 coil kit.
R35 ignition harness only
Select:
- Nexus Inline-Six R35 COP Ignition Harness – HT-186063
This option is intended for installations that already have compatible R35 coils and a suitable coil mounting solution. It supplies the ignition harness only; coils and mounting bracket are not included.

Injector Harness Options
The main Barra terminated harness requires an injector sub-harness suited to the electrical connector fitted to your injectors. Select the connector type—not the injector brand or advertised flow rate.
- EV1/Timer Primary Injector Harness – HT-186004: For six injectors using traditional Bosch EV1/Jetronic-style connectors.
- GT150/USCAR EV6 Primary Injector Harness – HT-186007: For six injectors using compact USCAR/EV6-style connectors.
- Sumitomo/Denso Primary Injector Harness – HT-186010: For six injectors using compatible Sumitomo/Denso-style connectors.
Each harness connects six injectors to the injector breakout connector on the main terminated harness. The individual injector connectors are labelled to make cylinder identification and installation more straightforward.
If you are unsure which connector your injectors use, compare the connector carefully or contact Spool Imports with the injector brand and part number before ordering.
Why Choose the Nexus R3 for a Barra?
The Nexus R3 is more than a conventional standalone ECU. Haltech combines engine management, power distribution, wideband lambda control and data logging into a single Vehicle Control Unit.
For a performance Barra installation, that integration can reduce the number of separate control modules and relays required while providing the advanced tuning, protection and motorsport functions expected from a modern Haltech system.

Important Installation Information
- This package requires installation, configuration and tuning by a suitably experienced technician.
- A terminated engine harness substantially reduces engine-side wiring work, but it does not make every Barra conversion completely plug-and-play.
- Vehicle-side wiring, power supply, grounding, fuel-system control and installation of optional accessories may still be required.
- A compatible wideband oxygen sensor is required to use the Nexus R3 onboard wideband controller.
- Injector and ignition options must match the physical components fitted to the engine.
- Confirm compatibility before ordering if your engine uses components from more than one Barra generation.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in the standard Haltech Nexus R3 Barra package?
The standard package includes the Haltech Nexus R3 VCU, part number HT-193000, and the Nexus R3 Ford Barra Terminated Engine Harness, part number HT-186405. Ignition and injector sub-harness components are selected separately.
Does this package include an injector harness?
No. Select the injector harness that matches the connectors fitted to your injectors: EV1/Timer, GT150/USCAR EV6 or Sumitomo/Denso.
Can I use the factory BA or BF Barra ignition coils?
Yes. You will require the BA/BF ignition harness HT-130345, the HPI6 high-power igniter HT-020036 and the Nexus six-cylinder igniter adaptor harness HT-186069.
Can I use the factory FG Barra ignition coils?
Yes. You will require the FG ignition harness HT-130347, the HPI6 high-power igniter HT-020036 and the Nexus six-cylinder igniter adaptor harness HT-186069.
Do I need an HPI6 when converting to R35 coils?
No. The R35-style coils used with the Haltech conversion are smart coils and do not require the external HPI6 ignition module. Select either the complete HT-120205 conversion kit or the HT-186063 harness-only option if compatible coils and a mounting bracket are already installed.
What is included with the HT-120205 R35 coil conversion?
The complete Haltech HT-120205 Barra R35 conversion includes the coil mounting bracket, six R35 ignition coils, connectors and the required ignition harness.
Does the terminated harness make the installation completely plug-and-play?
No. It greatly reduces engine-side wiring, but vehicle-side power, grounding, fuel-system control and other conversion wiring may still be required. The VCU must also be configured and professionally tuned.
Does the Nexus R3 have a built-in MAP sensor?
Yes. The Nexus R3 has an onboard 4-bar MAP sensor. The installation must still provide a suitable pressure reference to the VCU.
Does the Nexus R3 have built-in wideband control?
Yes. It has one onboard wideband controller supporting Bosch LSU 4.9 and compatible NTK sensors. The wideband oxygen sensor itself is not included in the standard package.
Can the Nexus R3 control electronic throttle and variable cam timing?
Yes. The Nexus R3 and Barra terminated harness support the applicable BA, BF and FG electronic throttle arrangements, along with intake and exhaust variable cam control on supported engines.
Can this package operate a factory automatic transmission?
The Nexus R3 supports several electronically controlled transmissions, but the suitability of a particular Barra transmission and vehicle combination must be confirmed separately. Additional wiring, interfaces or transmission control hardware may be required.
Is professional tuning required?
Yes. The Nexus R3 must be configured and tuned for the individual engine, injectors, fuel system, ignition components, sensors and vehicle application before the engine is operated under load.
