What bolts do these conrods use and how should I tighten them?
These rods use ARP conrod bolts, usually ARP2000 as standard with L19 or CA625+ available on some models. ARP2000 bolts are generally torqued to around 55 ft-lb for 3/8 inch and around 75 ft-lb for 7/16 inch when using ARP Ultra-Torque lube. L19 bolts must be tightened by stretch, not torque. Always refer to the latest ARP instructions for exact specifications.
Do these conrods have a horsepower rating or warranty?
No. Like other performance rods, they do not carry a horsepower or performance warranty. Spool warrants workmanship before installation, but once fitted, power handling depends entirely on machining, clearances, tuning, fuel, boost level and rpm.
Do the big end and small end need machining?
They often do. Crank journals and pin bores vary between engines, so your builder should measure the big end oil clearance and small end pin clearance and hone as required before assembly.
What are the benefits of using Spool conrods in a 3SGTE engine?
Spool conrods for the 3SGTE are made from high tensile 4340 forged steel, providing excellent strength and durability. The two-piece forging design and dowelled caps ensure precision alignment, which is crucial for high-performance applications. Additionally, these rods undergo rigorous testing, including X-ray and sonic testing, to ensure structural integrity.
What machining considerations should I keep in mind when installing these conrods?
While Spool conrods are a direct fit for the 3SGTE, it's essential to check the big-end and small-end clearances. Depending on your specific engine and its condition, you may need to hone the big-end or small-end to achieve the correct fit. Always consult your engine builder for the best practices.
Are bearings included with the Spool 3SGTE conrods?
No, the Spool 3SGTE conrods do not come with bearings included. You will need to source compatible bearings separately to complete your installation.
What is the weight tolerance for the Spool 3SGTE conrod sets?
Spool 3SGTE conrod sets are weight matched to within ±1 gram. This precision helps maintain balance in the rotating assembly, which is critical for high RPM applications.
What is the recommended application for Spool 3SGTE conrods?
Spool 3SGTE conrods are designed for high-performance applications, with customers successfully using them in setups producing over 1000 RWHP. However, reliability at these power levels depends on proper machining, clearances, tuning, and overall engine build quality.
