What bolts do these conrods use and how should I tighten them?
These rods use ARP conrod bolts, usually ARP2000 as standard with L19 or CA625+ available on some models. ARP2000 bolts are generally torqued to around 55 ft-lb for 3/8 inch and around 75 ft-lb for 7/16 inch when using ARP Ultra-Torque lube. L19 bolts must be tightened by stretch, not torque. Always refer to the latest ARP instructions for exact specifications.
Do these conrods have a horsepower rating or warranty?
No. Like other performance rods, they do not carry a horsepower or performance warranty. Spool warrants workmanship before installation, but once fitted, power handling depends entirely on machining, clearances, tuning, fuel, boost level and rpm.
Do the big end and small end need machining?
They often do. Crank journals and pin bores vary between engines, so your builder should measure the big end oil clearance and small end pin clearance and hone as required before assembly.
What are the key features of the Spool TB45 conrods?
The Spool TB45 conrods are made from high tensile 4340 forged steel and feature a two-piece forging design. They are dowelled for precision alignment, heat treated, shot peened, and undergo rigorous testing including X-ray, sonic testing, and Magnafluxing to ensure quality and reliability.
Do I need to machine the big end or small end of the TB45 conrods?
While the Spool TB45 conrods are designed as a direct fit, it is advisable to check the big-end and small-end dimensions against your crankshaft and pistons. Some builders may find that honing is necessary to achieve the correct clearances due to manufacturing tolerances.
What is the recommended application for the Spool TB45 conrods?
These conrods are suitable for high-performance applications, including builds aiming for over 1000 RWHP. However, the actual reliability and performance will depend on proper machining, tuning, fuel quality, and overall engine setup.
What should I know about the weight matching of these conrods?
The Spool TB45 conrods are weight matched within ±1 gram, which helps maintain balance in the rotating assembly. This is crucial for high RPM applications to reduce vibrations and improve engine longevity.
Are bearings included with the Spool TB45 conrods?
No, the Spool TB45 conrods do not come with bearings. You will need to source appropriate bearings separately to complete your engine assembly.
