What bolts do these conrods use and how should I tighten them?
These rods use ARP conrod bolts, usually ARP2000 as standard with L19 or CA625+ available on some models. ARP2000 bolts are generally torqued to around 55 ft-lb for 3/8 inch and around 75 ft-lb for 7/16 inch when using ARP Ultra-Torque lube. L19 bolts must be tightened by stretch, not torque. Always refer to the latest ARP instructions for exact specifications.
Do these conrods have a horsepower rating or warranty?
No. Like other performance rods, they do not carry a horsepower or performance warranty. Spool warrants workmanship before installation, but once fitted, power handling depends entirely on machining, clearances, tuning, fuel, boost level and rpm.
Do the big end and small end need machining?
They often do. Crank journals and pin bores vary between engines, so your builder should measure the big end oil clearance and small end pin clearance and hone as required before assembly.
What are the specific torque and stretch requirements for the ARP bolts on the CR4271 conrods?
The CR4271 conrods use 3/8" CARR-PS bolts. These should be tightened to a stretch of 0.0065" to 0.0075". If using torque, aim for approximately 70-100 ft-lbs, but it's best to follow ARP's latest instructions for precise specifications.
What machining considerations should I keep in mind when installing the CR4271 conrods?
When installing the CR4271 conrods, ensure that both the big-end and small-end may require honing to achieve the correct fit. It's essential to check the clearances against your crankshaft and piston specifications to ensure optimal performance.
What is the weight of each CR4271 conrod and how does it affect performance?
Each CR4271 conrod weighs approximately 600 grams. The lightweight design contributes to reduced reciprocating mass, which can enhance engine response and overall performance, especially in high RPM applications.
Are there any specific applications or performance ranges for the CR4271 conrods?
The CR4271 conrods are designed for the Dodge Gen 3 Viper engines and are suitable for high-performance applications, including racing. However, reliability and performance will depend on proper machining, clearances, tuning, and fuel quality.
What is the material used for the CR4271 conrods and how does it impact durability?
The CR4271 conrods are manufactured from oversized proprietary steel forgings, ensuring optimal grain flow and the removal of surface inclusions. This construction provides a high strength-to-weight ratio, making them durable for extreme racing conditions.
