Every HRB tool is developed from firsthand experience in high-performance engine building and motorsport. Founded in early 2017 by engineer and racing enthusiast Tom Hughes, HRB was created to solve the real frustrations engine builders face — poor fitment, flex-prone tools, and time-wasting workarounds — with robust, precise tooling that improves workflow and reduces risk during critical assembly procedures.

Engineering-Driven Design & Manufacturing

HRB tools are built to handle serious workshop demands, with a focus on durability, repeatability, and user-friendly design. Tom’s background includes competitive motocross, years in a professional engine-building environment, an automotive machining apprenticeship, and precision manufacturing leadership as Propulsion Leading Hand at Rocket Lab (New Zealand’s aerospace program). That combination of motorsport experience and aerospace-level attention to detail is reflected in HRB’s fit, finish, and reliability.

Motorsport-Proven Experience

HRB’s engineering approach is backed by extensive hands-on experience building and tuning four-valve performance engines — from naturally aspirated two-litre race engines through to extreme turbocharged combinations. The HRB workshop supports multiple motorsport disciplines including speedway racing and drifting, along with high-end street builds, with strong experience across popular performance platforms such as the Toyota 1UZ, Nissan RB-series, and Toyota 2JZ.
