Spool Imports has grown from a small home-based business selling JDM imported products on eBay into one of Australia's trusted names in performance engine components. From the beginning, Spool has focused on quality parts, practical advice and long-term relationships with serious customers, engine builders and suppliers.
The business was originally started by Brad Goucher, who saw a gap in the Australian market for quality performance connecting rods for some of the country's favourite engines. The first Spool conrod was developed for the Nissan RB30 engine, an engine platform that remains a major part of Australian performance culture.
More than two decades later, the same manufacturing partner that helped produce the original Spool conrods continues to manufacture the current Spool conrod range, including the latest Spool X300 300M conrods. That continuity matters. It reflects the way Spool does business: carefully, consistently and with long-term supplier relationships that support quality and accountability.

A New Chapter with Motor Brands
In 2021, Spool Imports was acquired by Tony Stewart and became part of the Motor Brands group, alongside Boss Air Suspension. This gave Spool the backing of a broader automotive group while retaining the specialist knowledge, product focus and enthusiast culture that made the business successful.
Tony is originally from New Zealand and has been involved in motorsport for most of his life. His earliest memories around racing go back to helping his father at the track during production endurance racing in the 1970s. He later raced go-karts in the 1980s, then moved into car racing through the 1990s and 2000s.
Motorsport has remained a family commitment. Tony's daughters began racing go-karts in New Zealand in 2009, before expanding into racing in Australia and then moving into cars in 2019. The family emigrated to Australia in 2020 to further support their racing. Madeline Stewart is now an established Porsche racer competing in the United States.
